ABSOLUTION and HOLY WATER

ABSOLUTION

[making the Sign of the Cross:] Deinde, ego te absolvo a peccatis tuis in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
Passio Domini nostri Jesu Christi, merita Beatæ Mariæ Virginis et omnium sanctorum, quidquid boni feceris vel mail sustinueris sint tibi in remissionem peccatorum, augmentum gratiæ et praemium vitæ æternæ.
May our Lord Jesus Christ absolve you; and by His authority I absolve you from every bond of excommunication and interdict, so far as my power allows and your needs require. [making the Sign of the Cross:] Thereupon, I absolve you of your sins in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
May the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the merits of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of all the saints obtain for you that whatever good you do or whatever evil you bear might merit for you the remission of your sins, the increase of grace and the reward of everlasting life.

HOLY WATER

In the extraordinary form of the Roman rite, recognition is given to the fact that Satan has been given dominion over the Earth and all things therein. He has the power to infect all with his demons. Accordingly, the rubrics for confecting Holy Water, in the extraordinary form of the Roman rite, require that both the salt and the water used for Holy Water are in turn each exorcised.

LATIN
ENGLISH
V. Adjutorium nostrun in nomine Domini.

R. Who made heaven and earth.
Exorcism of Salt

R. Amen.
O salt, creature of God, I exorcise you by the living + God, by the true + God, by the holy + God, by the God who ordered you to be poured into the water by Eliseus the Prophet so that its life-giving powers might be restored. I exorcise you so that you may become a means of salvation for believers, that you may bring health of soul and body to all who make use of you, arid that you may put to flight and drive away from the places where you are sprinkled every apparition, villainy, and turn of devilish deceit, and every unclean spirit, adjured by Him Who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.

R. Amen.

Let us pray:
Almighty and everlasting God, we humbly implore Thee, in Thy immeasurable kindness and love, to bless + and sanctify + this salt which Thou did create and give over to the use of mankind, so that it may become a source of health for the minds and bodies of all who make use of it, and may rid whatever it touches or sprinkles of all uncleanness and protect it from every assault of evil spirits. Through our Lord.

R. Amen
Exorcism of Water

R. Amen.
O water, creature of God, I exorcise you in the name of God the Father almighty, and in the name of Jesus Christ His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. I exorcise you so that you may put to flight all the power of the Enemy, and be able to root out and supplant that Enemy with his apostate angels: through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.

R. Amen.

Let us pray.
O God, Who for the salvation of mankind has built Thy greatest mysteries on this substance, water, in Thy kindness hear our prayers and pour down the power of Thy blessing + into this element, made ready for many kinds of purifications. May this, Thy creature, become an agent of divine grace in the service of Thy mysteries, to drive away evil spirits and dispel sickness, so that everything in the homes and other buildings of the faithful that is sprinkled with this water may be rid of all uncleanness and freed from every harm. Let no breath of infection, no disease-bearing air, remain in these places. May the wiles of the lurking Enemy prove of no avail. Let whatever might menace the safety and peace of those who live here be put to flight by the sprinkling of this water, so that the healthfulness, obtained by calling upon Thy holy name, may be made secure against all attack. Through our Lord .

R. Amen.
Here the priest shall put salt thrice in the water crosswise, saying once only.
Commixtio salis et aquæ pariter fiat in nomine Pa+tris, et Fi+lii et Spiritus + Sancti.

R. Amen.

V. Dominus vobiscum.

R. Et cum spiritu tuo.

Oremus:

R. Amen.

May a mixture of salt and water now be made in the name of the Fa + ther, and of the + Son, and of the Holy + Spirit.

R. Amen.

V. The Lord be with you.

R. And with your spirit.

Let Us Pray.
O God, Creator unconquerable, invincible King, Victor ever-glorious, Who did hold in check the forces bent on dominating us, Who did overcome the cruelty of the raging enemy, Who did in Thy power beat down the wicked foe:
Humbly and fearfully do we pray to Thee, O Lord, and we ask Thee to look with favor on this salt and water which Thou has created. Shine on it with the light of Thy kindness. Sanctify it by the dew of Thy love, so that, through the invocation of Thy holy name, wherever this water and salt is sprinkled it may turn aside every attack of the unclean spirit and dispel the terror of the poisonous serpent. And wherever we may be, make the Holy Spirit present to us who now implore Thy mercy. Through our Lord .

R. Amen.

EPIPHANY BLESSING

The Ceremony of the Blessing

Epiphany Chalk is used to write the following inscription over all the doors of one's house.
20+G+M+B+08

which represents the date plus the names of the Magi. Soft chalk of any color is best for writing on varnishwed surfaces. A riest should bless the chalk on Epiphany Day using the following Blessing, which is taken from the Roman Ritual
V. Our help is in the name of the Lord.
R. Who msade heaven and earth.
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
Let us pray.

O Lord God, bless + this chalk which Thou hast created, that it may be helpful to mankind; and grant that through the invocation of Thy most Holy Name all those who use this chalk or with it write over the doors of their houses the names of Thy Saints, Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar, may, by their merits and intercession, receive health of body and protection of soul. Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen

Later that day (or any day within the Octave of the Feast of Epiphany) at home, the ceremony is completed by a priest, or the father, or senior member of the family. The prayer is said once and at the main entrance of the house. All the members of the family should be present, and should accompany the priest or the father of the family as he goes from door to door - everyone keeping a respectful silence - or better, reciting the Joyful Mysteries of the rosary

Let us pray.

Hear us, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God, and send Thy Holy Angel from Heaven to watch over, cherish, protect, be with, and defend all who live in my house. I call upon Your Saints, Gaspar, Melchior and Balthazar, to protect my family and my home from every harm and danger, and I place the marks of their holy names over the doors of my home to remain there as a constant reminder to us and to all who enter here that my house is truly a house of the Lord.
O God, make the door of my house the gateway to Thy Eyernal Kingdom, I ask these things in the Name of Jesus Christ Thy Son.
R. Amen
